You've never heard of the harvest season? I find that hard to believe especially considering that you grew up in rural Wisconsin where corn fields and dairy farms surrounded our home ;-)
Yes Chris, I know of the harvest season, I'm just not aware of a specific holiday devoted to it which happens to coincide with Halloween. Basically, what it comes down to is I'm asking you if this is some sort of Christian attempt to abolish Halloween for some reason.

Because I've heard of Halloween, and I know its history. I do not, however, know the history of harvest day.

Well, why didn't you just say that? The answer is no, we're not trying to abolish Halloween. Christians are not tyrants.
