I don't care who you are... that there's funny!

Prayer Circle

We recently heard about Jessica's problems and wanted to let everyone know that we are keeping her and the family in our prayers. Please do the same so she has the strength to overcome this physical obstacle that she is facing.

Audio Moblog

This is very, very cool! Unfortunately, while I was blogging the following message my cell phone battery died so I didn't get to finish what I wanted to tell you... I have a trip coming up in March and I thought I might try to use this as an interesting way to keep everyone up-to-date. If you have any questions or comments about this then please use the "comments" feature of this post so we can get a good "thread" going.

Thanks for the birthday wishes, everyone! It was a really good birthday because Dan got me the best present I've ever received. When I studied abroad in Vienna, I fell in love with the works of the painter Egon Schiele. This painting is my all-time favorite. If you'd like to view it, you can go to this link: http://www.artchive.com/artchive/S/schiele/embrace.jpg.html

Dan ordered a really nice print of it and had his cousin matte and frame it (she works in a store where they frame artwork). It looks so good! I think it's the most grown-up present I've ever gotten. Yay!

Pine Car Derby Time!

We visited Dad and Jeanne a couple weeks ago to cut out and prep the kids' pine cars for the upcoming derby. Here are photos of them sanding them down after Dad cut out their designs.

Atlantis Lands at Kennedy Space Center

I don't care who you are, space flight is coooooooollll!

With Commander Steve Frick and Pilot Alan Poindexter at the controls, space shuttle Atlantis descended to a smooth landing at Kennedy Space Center, Fla. The STS-122 crew concluded their successful assembly mission to the International Space Station when the shuttle touched down at 9:07 a.m. EST.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LAURA!

I pray you'll have a terrific day and enjoy the anniversary of your birth. I remember when you were born. I came home from school that day to find out the news and me, Jackie, Jenny, Debbie, and Kurt were so excited we could barely contain ourselves.

Happy Birthday!

Christian Inspiration

Christians do not put their faith in Supreme Court rulings but, instead, in what God tells us through the Holy Scriptures. Supreme Courts and Earthly authorities come and go but God is eternal. Here are a few examples of what Christians believe:

Ephesians 2:8, 9
It is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is a gift of God - not by works so that no one can boast.

2 Corinthians 5:19
God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them.

Romans 3:22-24
This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Jesus Christ.

1 Thessalonians 5:17
Pray continually.

Matthew 7:7
Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

Galatians 2:16
(We) know that a man is not justified by observing the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ, not by observing the law, because by observing the law, no one will be justified.

Ephesians 1:4-6
For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ in accordance with his pleasure and will to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.

My inspiration

The following definition of Atheism was given to the Supreme Court of the United States in the case of Murray v. Curlett, 374 U.S. 203, 83 S. Ct. 1560, 10 L.Ed.2d (MD, 1963), to remove reverential Bible reading and oral unison recitation of the Lord's Prayer in the public schools.

“Your petitioners are Atheists and they define their beliefs as follows. An Atheist loves his fellow man instead of god. An Atheist believes that heaven is something for which we should work now – here on earth for all men together to enjoy.

An Atheist believes that he can get no help through prayer but that he must find in himself the inner conviction, and strength to meet life, to grapple with it, to subdue it and enjoy it.

An Atheist believes that only in a knowledge of himself and a knowledge of his fellow man can he find the understanding that will help to a life of fulfillment.

He seeks to know himself and his fellow man rather than to know a god. An Atheist believes that a hospital should be built instead of a church. An Atheist believes that a deed must be done instead of a prayer said. An Atheist strives for involvement in life and not escape into death. He wants disease conquered, poverty vanquished, war eliminated. He wants man to understand and love man.

He wants an ethical way of life. He believes that we cannot rely on a god or channel action into prayer nor hope for an end of troubles in a hereafter.

He believes that we are our brother's keepers; and are keepers of our own lives; that we are responsible persons and the job is here and the time is now.”

Inspiration

I just love this passage:

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? . . . . And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. . . . . For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Mt 6:25, 28, 32-34

Simply put, trust in God... Everything else is secondary. Everything. This was a very hard thing for me to learn as a young college student. I thought the world revolved around me. I worshiped myself as well as science and technology. If I wanted it, I got it. That was the main theme of the '90s: if it feels good how can it be bad? Just do it and have fun. I have learned better. The world does not revolve around me, it revolves because of His will. My life is part of His plan and my eventual passing will be according to His plan. When you put your trust in God you free yourself from the burdens of all things that are out of control in your life. Think about this for a minute: isn't it funny how you always end up getting just what you need? Do you think that is your doing? All the minute events that happened just perfectly to get you exactly where you are were totally your doing? My broken shoulder in officer candidate school was my own doing? If not for that, I never would have settled down to raise a wonderful family and I probably never would have matured and re-discovered my faith. He is far better equipped to manage this crazy life, so, let Him.
