Watch out, new sins!

Apparently the Vatican just released a list of new deadly sins that are more applicable to our modern age. I guess I'm pretty screwed since I commit number one several times a day at work. Woops.

The New Mortal Sins

1.) genetic modification

2.) carrying out experiments on humans

3.) polluting the environment

4.) causing social injustice

5.) causing poverty

6.) becoming obscenely wealthy

7.) taking drugs

Glad I'm Lutheran so I don't have to listen to the Vatican anymore. Where do they get off creating new sins when everything we need to know is in the Word of God? With all due respect to my Catholic friends, I'll take God's Word over a human's word every time.

Well to that I would reply that it is just as much a leap of faith to consider the Vatican's word the word of god as it is to consider the bible the word of god. They both come from man, no matter what spin you want to place upon it. Both beliefs require a huge leap of faith.

That's why it's called faith. It's interesting that scientific theory isn't also called faith since it also requires huge leaps. For instance, if the Big Bang started the whole universe and before that there was nothing, what sparked it? If there was nothing then there certainly couldn't have been a spark and there certainly couldn't have been any material to explode. Nothing means exactly that. No fuel, no spark, how can scientists expect us to believe that unless they have faith in science? I choose to put my faith in God. Actually, He chose to place that faith in me. I simply accept His gifts.
